On May 19, 2011, Chenega Federal Systems held its 5th Annual Chenega Invitational at Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge, Va., benefitting the Azalea Charities’ Aid for Wounded Warriors project. With 144 participants and 36 teams, the event proved to be a great success, raising more than $46,000 through registration fees, raffle ticket sales, donations, sponsorships and a competitive silent auction.
CFS is incredibly grateful to all of the sponsors and contributors who made this event possible. Some of the donated items included a Redskins football signed by the entire Washington Redskins football team; various signed sports memorabilia, including jerseys, helmets, and photographs; concert tickets; framed photographs; and handcrafted jewelry. Raffle prizes were also donated in the form of gift certificates, golf products, and special passes for a fun day of golf.
The growth of this tournament over the years has been overwhelming. In 2008, the Chenega Invitational hosted 80 players, raising $17,000, and has continued to grow exponentially throughout the years, with $35,000 – more than double the first year – raised in 2010. The money collected this year will go towards the Aid for Wounded Warriors project, which aims to lift the spirits and enhance the morale of military men and women who have been injured in the line of duty. Part of the proceeds will also directly to the family of a local wounded Army veteran, Jay Briseno. Jay’s father, Joe, was at the tournament to share the story of his son’s catastrophic injuries, and expressed complete gratitude for the support and contributions that will go toward building a specialized home that will ensure the best treatment and quality of life for Jay. Chenega Federal Systems continues to support the community through charitable events and looks forward to the 6th Annual Chenega Invitational in 2012.
