WHAT’S BEING GIVEN: Christmas Dinner and Holiday Party

BACKGROUND:  Azalea Charities hosted a holiday dinner for wounded soldiers and their families from Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Sunday, December 21, at Giorgio’s Family Restaurant in Montclair, Virginia. About 50 soldiers and family members attended, along with well-wishers from Azalea Charities. Wounded vets and their families were treated to a ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings and entertainment by tenor Patrick Mulhern from nearby Nokesville, Virginia. Santa Claus also made an appearance with presents for the children.

Azalea Charities of Prince William County is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, incorporated in 2000 and staffed entirely by volunteers who donate their time, talent and money. Since its inception in June 2004, Azalea Charities’ Aid for Wounded Soldiers program has distributed more than $500,000 in funding, reaching out to vets from as far back as World War II. Azalea Charities provides funding for the purchase of needed comfort items, which are disbursed across the country through the American Red Cross to Military Medical Centers, through volunteer services programs to the VA Medical Centers and to Fisher House rehabilitation facilities. In addition, Azalea Charities provides financial support to CrisisLink in Arlington, Virginia, for the U.S. Army's Wounded Soldier and Family Hotline (1-800-984-8523), which opened on March 19, 2008.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE SPONSOR: “This Christmas meal is a first but not the last!” says Azalea Charities Chairman & CEO Frank Lasch. “With the numerous requests from our wounded military men, women and families, there is a greater need to raise funds. This fiscal year, we are hoping to raise $500K for our Aid for Wounded Soldiers effort and an additional $250K for our core community charities. We are looking to the community and businesses from Arlington to Fredericksburg to adopt Azalea Charities as their charity. Contributions may be made online at www.azaleacharities.org."
